Abstract

This research aimed to find alternative media for teacher to improve students' writing skills. This research was conducted based on the fact that the results of English achievement especially in writing skills could not achieve the target. Probably, it was caused by system of teaching was still conventional. One of alternative media that is used by the researcher to solve this problem is the implementation of pictures slide show. Pictures slide show is a piece of software that shows a number of images on a computer screen in a particular order a slideshow presentation. This media is used to give new experience in their English learning. It also makes the students attracted more and passionate with the lesson especially in writing skills. The researcher conducted an experiment to test this proportion and to find out whether pictures slide show has a significant effect on students' writing skills or not. This research used experimental research. The design in this study was randomized, pre-test post-test control group. The researcher formulated a hypothesis that there was significant effect of pictures slide show on student's writing skills. Population in this research was the whole first grade students of SMPN 3 Batu in academic year 2014/2015 divided into ten classes. The sampling technique used in this research was simple random sampling. The samples were class VII G as control class consisting of 30 students and class VII H as experimental class consisting of 29 students. The researcher applied the test on writing skills as the research instruments. Based on the findings of this research, the implementation of pictures slide show was successful to give significant effect on writing skills in experimental group. The result can be seen from the score of post test after giving the treatment. From the t test result, it gained significant score 0.007, this score was smaller than alpha (α= 0.05). It can be concluded that hypothesis was accepted. It is recommended that pictures slide show can be implemented in teaching writing.
