Abstract

Moral values are values taught to be absorbed by members of the society to improve character development and advance good moral in education and moral health in every individual. Moral health is created in individuals when someone becomes capable of understanding the principles of moral behavior and is acted to behave morally in his dealings with others. In this study, the objective of the study is to analyze the moral values implied in Philip Prows’ novel Bristol Murder. This research applied descriptive qualitative research because the researcher intended to describe the data in the forms of words. The researcher used utilized documentation method in collecting the data. Document analysis is a research method applied to written or visual materials for the purpose of identifying specified characteristics of the material. The materials analyzed can be textbooks, newspapers, web pages, speeches, television programs, advertisements, musical compositions, or any of a host of other types of documents. Documentary method refers to the analysis of documents that contain information about the phenomenon related to the study. While in data analysis, the researcher used several steps to investigate the object. It begun with identifying the moral values which implied in the novel, analyzing the moral values which implied in the novel, and drawing the conclusion from data analysis, which was gathered from answering problem statement. The subject of this study was moral values found in the Philip Prowse' novel Bristol Murder. After analyzing the Philip Prows’ novel Bristol Murder, the researcher concluded that there are nine types of moral values found in the novel. Those are bravery, cooperativeness, love, humbleness, justice, sympathy, politeness, thankfulness, and sincerity. So, the total number of moral values quotation found in the novel is 24. They are bravery (6), cooperativeness (3), love (2), humbleness (1), justice (2), sympathy (3), politeness (2), thankfulness (4), and sincerity (1).
