Abstract

This research studied about the implementation of quiz in reading comprehension classes at English Department in University Muhammadiyah of Malang. Then, the purposes of the study are to investigate: 1) the teacher implementation of quiz, 2) the students’ response toward teachers’ assessment in order to answer the statement of problem.The method used in this study was a descriptive qualitative research. The researcher chooses English teacher of reading comprehension in first semester of 1D class in University Muhammadiyah of Malang and also the class D of the first semester students at English Department University Muhammadiyah of Malang as subjects. Furthermore, the data of this research are the notes from the observation, the teachers’ and the students’ statements obtained from interview, and also the students’ statements obtained from interview. The results suggested that the teacher should know the situation of the class, because a quizzes used were not always suitable for every class, although the students were in the same grade. Then, they should recognize about the students’ feelings in order to minimize the students’ boredom and make them feel comfortable. However, those factors have high influences on the students’ potential ability and achievement in learning. In addition, the teacher should be able to make their students become more active and participate well in class. Giving more direct praise may be useful to develop the students’ motivation.
