Literary works, one of them is novel, express the events happened in human life, thus, one who reads them will find out what the author wants to express. The writer of this thesis is interested in the work of Margaret Mitchell Gone with the Wind for the well written of the author presented the novel, it is comedic, dramatic, exciting, and filled with romance for it always becomes an interesting topic to be discussed, and it tells about bitter hard struggle of a woman during the war. Meanwhile, the problems that are going to be discussed are; (1) how are Scarlett O’Hara’s survivals? (2) what are the reasons? and (3) what are the results of her survivals found in Margaret Mitchell’s novel Gone with the Wind? In performing the analysis, the writer of this thesis uses descriptive research. It is appropriate with the study because it just interprets the problems by using reasonable method without working with statistic. The technique applied is library research that is gathering the data from the novel itself and every relevant document such as books and internet. In performing the analysis, she uses an objective approach. The ways to collect the data are; (1) reading and understanding the paragraphs and the dialogues in the novel, (2) choosing the data dealing with the problems, (3) selecting the data related to the purposes of study, and (4) marking the data dealing with the problems. The ways to analysis the data are; (1) finding the Scarlett O’Hara’s survivals, (2) identifying the reasons, (3) analyzing the results of her survivals found in Margaret Mitchell’s novel Gone with the Wind, and (4) drawing the conclusion based on the analysis. Based on this analysis, Scarlett O’Hara’s survivals were fertilizing plantation Tara, killing a Yankee, and running some business. The reasons of her survivals were for fighting over starvation and poverty, the sake of Tara, and taking care her folks. Finally, the results of her survivals were owning some business, being rich, and being honored.
