Reserve the main energy source of fossil fuels thinning, while the demand for energy is increasing. Caused the population growth, economic growth and energy consumption pattern itself is constantly increasing. One source of renewable energy which is of considerable interest to wind energy. Research Wind Energy Conversion System (WECS) low speed have not been used in Indonesia. Though there are several locations that have a continuous low wind speeds that allow converted into energy. The use of lighting at night is one thing to absorb quite a lot of electrical energy, especially on street lighting. One solution is to perform design of vertical axis wind turbines (VAWT). Types were used as a vane type helix, because the vertical axis wind turbine blade type helix is still rare in Indonesia were minimal study design and manufacture. Vertical axis wind turbine is safer to use than on the horizontal axis type. Several assumptions will be used to design a propeller-shaped helix, because of limited references and data. This wind turbine generator connected to the axial flux type (AFPMG-Axial Flux Permanent Magnet Generator). This generator is very suitable for wind turbines because of its low speed and can connect directly to the main turbine shaft, thus eliminating the transmission losses. On testing the vertical axis wind turbine blade without a generator type helix obtained value of tip speed ratio (TSR) of 0,77.
