One of the most important developments of individual in his or her life range is marriage. Substantively, a marriage is aimed to gain happiness, to achieve the goal in life, and continuumsatisfaction whether mentally and physically. For most tribes in Indonesia, in their marriage life, husband had more authority than wife. But there are traditions where the wife had more authority than the husband, such as Tunggu Tubang custom of the Semende tribe in South Sumatra. Tunggu Tubang is a degree given from generation to generation to the oldest daughter in the family of Semende tribe. The oldest daughter which is given Tunggu Tubang bears the mandate to wait, to use, to arrange the outcome and the wealth of their deceased parents. This cultural tradition that later become the background of why in Tunggu Tubang custom of Semende tribe, the wife become more dominant in household arrangements than the husband. Based on this matter, the objective of this study is to discover the satisfaction image of Tunggu Tubang couple within the custom tradition of Semende tribe in South Sumatra and to discover kind of factors that influence it. This study is a descriptive qualitative study using interview technique as its data collection method. Subject or respondent of this study compose of four Tunggu Tubang couple which already married for ten years, maximum. Data validity test of this study is done using triangulation method that is interview with (a) subject’s core family; (b) subject’s neighbor; (c) subject’s relatives; (d) custom functionary/pemangku adat; (e) prominent figure in the society. Based on the data analysis, this study revealed that in Tunggu Tubang couple for the husbands, there is Unbalanced Split Pattern communication, made the husbands not yet feeling the satisfaction of marriage. Their wife status as Tunggu Tubang also made the husbands feel that their wife becoming more dominant in their marriage. While from the wife’s point of view, they feel they have to earn more roles within their marriage since they carry Tunggu Tubang status. Most wives has felt satisfaction in their marriage since their hopes and aspiration in their marriage life already being fulfill that is to have a good husband, that cares and loves them, and to have descendant. Marriage’s satisfaction level for those subjects/respondents were related with several factors that is, although it might look unbalanced, it is still a good communication, they have willingness to sacrifice for each other, willingness to equalize exchange whether economy or service and there are still commitments in their marriage.
