Abstract

Apple productivity in Batu City is decreasing year by year due to pest attacks. Pests that often attack apple plants are leaf caterpillars (Spodoptera litura). Efforts that can be made are to use vegetable insecticides kepyar castor seed oil (Ricinus communis L.) which has the potential to overcome leaf pests because it contains ricin which is toxic to insects. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the concentration of vegetable insecticides kepyar castor bean oil (Ricinus communis L.) on the mortality of leaf caterpillars (Spodoptera litura) on apple plants. This type of research is true experiment research with posttest-only control group design. The sampling technique of this study used purpose sampling. The sampling unit used was S. litura instar III larvae. The samples were then given 6 treatments and 3 repetitions with a time of 2 x 24 hours, where there was a con-trol group (-) using water, control (+) using calcium polysulfide, castor bean oil keyar 5 ml / l, 10 ml / l, 15 ml / l and 20 ml / l. The data analysis technique used was one-way ANOVA test and Duncan's further test. The data analysis technique used was one-way ANOVA test and Duncan's further test. The results showed that the 20 ml/l treatment group was most effective with the highest mean value of 6.5 for two days compared to the other treatments. The results of the study can be used as a biology learning resource on the material of pest control of fruit crops SMK Class XI based on the requirements of learning resources that have been de-termined
