The leprosy disease can make the sufferers feel hopeless and useless, because of that it needs things that able to change negatives thoughts become positives thoughts. Optimism and hopes just some positive thing that can be used to face subjects problems to face subject problems that caused by the disease, and can be used as encouragement to still in spirit and try to continue life. This research is descriptive qualitative research, the research subject of 9 persons that suffered the leprosy in Leprosy Hospital, Sorong – Papua, the research is done on April,22, 2008 to May 5, 2008 in Leprosy Hospital. Data analysis in the research by using qualitative descriptive, data collection method is interview and observation, where the researcher ask some question that related with the diseases and the optimism and hope picture of the subject and completed the interview process by conducting observation toward the subject and the data validity technique, that is triangulation credibility. The researcher rechecks information toward the close parties of the sufferers, that is the hospital and treat the sufferers. The results showed that optimism of the subject is the presence of strong belief that the disease will be recovered and will not spread again because the subject has conduct treatment and remediation regularly, subjects also consider the disease is examination from god that finally will be finished, and always think positively by grind down their ability to be useful person and able to work to get income and has enthusiasm to continue their life and fill it with good things. The hope is the disease will not spread again because the subjects have take treatment and pray, subjects want to be accepted again by family and society because their disease has been fully recovered, and subjects hope the help and cooperation from family and society to the leprosy sufferers.
