Abstract

Wangi River is one of the rivers that is still used for daily needs by residents in Pasuruan Regency. Increased population and industrial activities in the Wangi River basin can lead to pollution, including heavy metals. Heavy metals are dangerous pollutants because they are toxic (non-degradable) if present in large quantities. Pollution comes from liquid waste discharges such as household waste, industrial waste and agricultural waste. Pollution by heavy metals in rivers has negative effects on the environment and human health. This study aims to determine the levels of heavy metals in the Wangi River using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS). The research was conducted in Wangi River in June-July 2023. This research is descriptive quantitative with data collection methods of observation, documentation and metal testing conducted at the Malang City Tirta Services laboratory, after which the laboratory results will be compared with the water quality standards of PP No. 22 of 2021. The results of the study found that the heavy metal levels of Wangi River water in Pasuruan Regency were Pb of 0.0151 mg/L, Cd of <0.0018 mg/L and Hg of <0.00003 mg/L. Based on the quality standards of Government Regulation No. 22 of 2021, the value of heavy metals in Wangi River does not exceed the maximum threshold. The results of this study are used as a biology learning resource in the form of an e-module in biology class X even semester on the material of environmental changes, causes and impacts on life.
