Abstract

Basically, public relation is a department or a certain function needed in every organization, both commercial (company) and non-commercial organization. Public relation as the public speaking have double function, they are to give information to public (external) and to get the public feedback (internal). The successfulness is depend on the effort, struggle, and power of the organization it self. Public relation role in an organization is run the management function. Public relation is one of function of leadership. In order to that, public relation goal is to effort, guide, and create good public image on the foundation or organization, so it can reach the goal, and to get understanding, believing, motivation, and cooperativeness from public (Ali, 1990:14) Public relation is a work unit that is important to be had in a company to get company images holder, but also as a work unit, in which the job is to conduct the direct product marketing of the company to the public. In order to that a public relation have to be skillful on the company products will be sold, have to be loyal, and have to be able to keep positive image of the company. The problem statement in this research is “What strategy used by public relation of the Sun Hotel Sidoarjo to increase its positive images”. The purpose of this research is to know what strategy used by public relation of the Sun Hotel Sidoarjo to increase its positive images. In this research, the researcher used qualitative method with type descriptive research. The information resources of this research are the head of Sun Hotel Sidoarjo and the chief of public relation in Sun Hotel Sidoarjo. The place of this research is in Sun Hotel Sidoarjo. To get the data, researcher used some techniques, they are : (a) observation, (b) interview, and (c) documentation. After all data are collected, the researcher used domain analysis to analyze the data. It is done in order to get draft, or general understanding, or surface level but relatively general on what is covered in a focus or major problem that is observing (Sanapiahn, Daisal: 2001: 91), so by that analysis, researcher used descriptive qualitative, and try to explain factually about some facts got on the field when the observation conducting. Based on the research that had been done, and based on the statement of the problem, it can concluded that strategy used by public relation of the Sun Hotel Sidoarjo to increase its positive images, is strategy that applied to all employers and staffs, by making good relation, and as a medium between company and public. Furthermore, external public relation means a unit of public relation that focuses on the public area outside the company. On holding the promotion, in which to influence public opinion about program and activities that will be done, or on progress, or had been done, is in order to increase positive image of the Sun Hotel Sidoarjo. Public relation activities is not going out from the publicity role, the aim is to create a brand and image of a product, company, or a foundation.
