Abstract

Background: gadgets are very widely used especially among children and teenagers. The use of gadgets if used correctly and appropriately will feel the benefits such as being a place to add knowledge, find information and also be able to find out the latest news. However, if excessive use of gadgets in school-age children can cause addiction that has an impact on children's physical and psychosocial development, especially in the child's learning process. Children will be lazy to learn and only attach importance to their gadgets to play social media and games. The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (2020), shows that 71.3% of children surveyed already have their own gadgets and 79% of children are allowed to use gadgets for purposes other than learning.
The purpose of the study: to determine the relationship between the frequency of gadget use and the decline in interest in learning in school-age children at SD Negeri 04 Bangelan.
Method: this study uses quantitative correlation with sampling using purposive sampling. With a population of 64 people, it became 55 respondents consisting of classes V and VI at SD Negeri 04 Bangelan.
Results: From the characteristic data of female respondents, most of the respondents were 30 (54.5%) respondents, most of the 11-year-old children were 26 (47.3%) respondents. All respondents have their own gadgets 55 (100%), most children 45 (81.8%) respondents choose to play gadgets instead of playing outside. The frequency of gadget use in children reached a high score of 28 (50.9%) respondents and children's interest in learning reached a moderate score of 46 (83.6%). The results of the correlation statistical test show p-value = 0.003 this value is lower than a = 0.05 so that the null hypothesis is rejected. So the results of statistical tests show that there is a relationship between the frequency of gadget use and the decrease in interest in learning school-age children at SD Negeri 04 Bangelan.
Conclusion: the decline in interest in learning students of SD Negeri 04 Bangelan is due to the use of gadgets that are too frequent and prefer to play games and social media compared to playing outside the home with peers.
