English is one of the International languages in the world. English plays very important roles in every activity. Not only the adult learners but also the young learners nowadays learn English. For that purpose, the effort to introduce English should be applied earlier. The teaching techniques are needed to support the success of learning. The teaching techniques used should be in line with the young learners’ characteristics. The teaching techniques which are suggested for young learners such as; demonstration, playing, games, singing a song, telling story, repeating, listening, working in a pairs or group, asking and answering questions.This study is aimed at knowing the teaching techniques used by the English teacher and the problems faced by the teacher at MIN Malang I. The research design used in this study is descriptive qualitative design. The research subject of this study is a female English teacher who teaches at MIN Malang I from grade fourth to fifth. The instrument used by the writer to get the data are direct observation and interview. The result of this study shows that the teaching techniques used by the English teacher at MIN Malang I varied, such as: conversation, song, demonstration, and games. The activities of teaching English were not monotonous. The teacher tried to change the technique and created different topics on other activities. The teacher used the techniques in order to make her teaching interesting to her students and suitable with their characteristics as young learners. The students responded well to the techniques used by their teacher. The problems faced by the English teacher is only in handling the students.
