Abstract
Culex sp. act as the vector of Filariasis, Japanese Encephalitis, Chikungunya fever. Chemical insecticide used for controlling vector, but the problems are insect resistance and toxic for environtment. For that reason, natural substance is needed. The component of pandanus leaves are alkaloid, saponin, flavonoid, and tanin. The purpose of this experiment was to investigate the insecticide potency of pandanus leaves extract againts adult Culex sp. mosquito. Extraction of pandanus leaves was done in Chemical Laboratory University of Muhammadiyah Malang on September 2008. The research was done in Insectiside Test Laboratory Disease Reservoir Vector Research Centre Salatiga, Centre Java on Desember 2008. This experiment was true experiment post test only control group design and was repeated four times. The dosages used were 5.000, 10.000, 20.000, 40.000, 80.000, 160.000 ppm and aquadest (control). The tests were done by using Glass chamber and observed at 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 120, 240, 480, 720 and 1440 minutes respectively. Concentration of 80.000 ppm showed the most effective insecticide potency up to60% at the minute 1440. Probit analyzed showed the LD 50 and LD 90 for each observed time. The conclusion was pandanus leaves extract have low insecticide potency against Culex sp. mosquitoes on each extract concentration. Further studies should be done to examine the toxic dosage of pandanus leaves extract for human.
