Abstract

The use of WiMAX for WMAN implementation had been appropriate since WiMAX coverage is very broad, and certainly need mobility support as celluler network that provides handoff facilities to support mobility for each cell phone user. Handoff as the process of transferring network, this also can cause data transmission process interrupted and increase the amount of packet loss being greater if it takes a long time. From the analysis of the handoff process which is simulated with NS2, it can be concluded that the improper configuration of WiMAX causes handoff latency is quite large and influence on the transmitted data very much. WiMAX configuration is the provision of WiMAX parameter values associated with mobility. Testing on the default configuration with a speed of 10m/s cause large handoff latency for about 4.574 s and the packet loss reaches 6.3%, after the revamped handoff latency can be reduced to 0.091s and packet loss was reduced to 0.10% of total packets transmitted.
