Vocabulary is the important component in language acquisition. Teaching vocabulary is one of the fundamental factors that make is possible person to speak the language in the communicative way. The teacher has to be able to apply various media or methods of teaching to make students’ interested in learning English. Here, the writer wants to research the effectiveness of teaching vocabulary by using songs and picture chards In this study the writer formulates the research question as follows: is teaching using songs more effective than using picture chards at SMP Muhammadiyah 06 Dau Malang? This study, the writer used experimental the research design. Two intact groups, which had already been organized into two parallel classes, were experimental group and control group. Both groups were treated differently. The experimental group was the group, which was thought by picture chart. At the beginning of the study, both group were given the same test. Then, the experimental group treatment was given. At the end of the treatment both group were given a post test. Based on the result of hypothesis testing the result of these study shows that FA, FB, and FAB table values are more than FA, FB, and FAB observed values. Its means teaching vocabulary by using songs is more effective than using picture chards.
