Abstract

It is not surprising to find every police personnel will face a mutation since they make an entry into the police world. This mutation is assigned either based on the work competence of individuals or on specific situation requiring individuals' work competence. Being subjected to mutation causes individuals to feel anxious. They have anxiety of new environment and new task. They wonder if they can carry out the task as expected. However, the self-concept may determine the anxiety. Therefore, the question is how the anxiety rate is from positive or negative self-concepts. The objective of research is to understand the relationship between self-concept and the anxiety of facing mutation. Research method is non-experiment with correlation quantitative approach. Research location is Malang Resort Police. Population of research is all police officers of Malang Resort Police who are subjected to mutation. Research sample is 100 police officers of Malang Resort Police who is the candidate of mutation. Sampling technique is quota sampling. Data are revealed by the self¬concept scale comprising to 35 items, and also by the anxiety scale consisting of 38 items. Data analysis tool is using correlation test of Product Moment Pearson. Result of research indicates that there is a correlation between self-concept and anxiety of facing mutation by the value of coefficient of correlation (r) for - 0.426 with significant rate of 0.000 (p < 0.05). Based on this value, hypothesis of research is accepted, meaning that there is a negative and significant correlation between self-concept and anxiety of facing mutation among police officers. The higher self-concept is related to the lower anxiety perceived by the police officers. In contrast, the lower self-concept is causing higher anxiety rate in facing the mutation.
