Abstract

The important to understand the algebra concept for student in fact, more students cannot solve it in their study. Because of that, need to conducted an analysis of difficult study for student in understand algebra in mathematics. If the student did not understand the basic concept of algebra absolutely, the student difficult to understand the mathematics in their future. This research has purpose (1) to know the difficulties of algebra concept in junior high school class VII at Muhammadiyah Ponorogo III (2) some factors of difficult for student to understand in algebra. The student choices as the subject of the research is the student which has understand from 65,00. The data had collected with algebra test method, questioner, and interview. Algebra test used for analysis error student in concept, questioner used to know some factors the difficulties to study algebra and interview used to know deeply in difficulties students in algebra concept, and find the way to solve it. An analysis was used Quantitative and Qualitative method. The result of this research is : (1) the difficulties of student junior high school class VII at Muhammadiyah Ponorogo III in solve algebra Question is (a) in understand the algebra concept, student still find difficult for used a picture and symbol to representative the concept, which is in high categories 87% ; (b) the error of it usually, did by student in understand the concept. Is when the student should use the Venn Diagram; (2) the factors of difficulties study junior high school student at Muhammdiyah Ponorogo III in understanding the algebra from external factor, in use the teaching toll by teachers which has enough categories (49%).
