Abstract

Students could achieve the best performance in class if parents have the same opinion in giving clear and positive values about the efforts and expectations of school. Students’ academic achievement which controlled by parents will be better. Achir’s research (2004) discusses about the role of parents in establishing intellectual abilities. Creativity and restriction from parents showed the great attention to students with talent, especially concerned in learning attitude, diligence, tenacity, etc. Giving less restriction leads the students with talents could not develop and achieve the best performance in class. This research tried to prove that students with talent, concerned in Senior High School, still need the supports, motivation, and control from the parents. The same case also happened for the acceleration class students. They need support from their parents in their learning process in acceleration class. It is needed to decrease negative behavior as responds to the stressor in the process of acceleration program, so they still have willingness and achieve the optimal results. The objectives of the research are to find out the influence of social supports by the parents to academic achievement of acceleration students, and to find out kinds of social supports that could increase academic achievement of the students. This research used causal-comparative research that concerned about the relationship between kinds of social supports of parents and academic achievement of acceleration students. This research used total-sampling method, so that all the population is all the samples. The population of this research is acceleration students in first grade of SMA N 1 Banjarmasin. The number of students is 25 people. In collecting the data, the researcher used scale method which are scale of parents’ social supports and score report of the students. To analyze the data, the researcher used regression analysis. From the findings, the regression coefficient (F) is 1.093 with significance value (P) is 0.387. It showed that there is no significant influence of parents’ social supports to academic achievement of the students. It means that there are no significant correlation between parents’ social supports and academic achievement of the students. So, the parents’ social support factor cannot determine the academic achievement of the students
