Abstract

The purposes of this research were to describe the implementation of Rotating Trio Exchange method by Round Table technique, student activities and student ability to solve mathematics problem. This research was conducted at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (MAN) Malang II Batu. This research used qualitative and quantitative approach with descriptive research. Research data in the form the observation teacher activities, student activities, and student ability to solve mathematics problem. Data sources were from student at X-8 class and mathematics teacher at MAN Malang II Batu, total of student at X-8 class is 32 students. The result of research showed that Rotating Trio Exchange (RTE) by Round Table technique (RT) in learning mathematics implemented well appropriate with learning syntax which was planned. Student activity improved properly in every meeting, but in the third meeting little decreased. Student activity classified very well is in mental activities, students exchanged idea in group discussion by giving idea or solution from the problem that was given. The students have dared to ask and to respond the question both from friend or teacher and also be able to solve individual task independently. Student activities categorized as low is in Visual activities, only few students who want to read the summary of material which was given and to pay attention the members work in their group. Mathematics problem solving ability of students in the step of problem understanding and implementation of planning problem solving was very good, students were be able to identify what was known and asked from the question and also be able to solve calculation process correctly. While in the step of problem solving plan and recheck step to work result that was got quite good.
