Abstract

This study was conducted to answer the research questions posed: 1) How difficulty on male students in solving math problems on the material in class XI IPA SMA Taman Madya Probolinggo?; 2) How difficult on female students in solving math problems on the material Opportunities in class XI IPA SMA Taman Madya Probolinggo?; 3) What are the factors that cause boys and girls have difficulty in solving opportunities?. This study categorized the qualitative descriptive study emphasizes on the case study. Object of this research is class XI IPA SMA Taman Madya Probolinggo. Collecting data using test and interview sheet. The test is given only once after delivery of material finishes opportunities discussed, and interviews were conducted with several students (respondents), namely 2 male students - men are capable, 2 male students - men are capable of being, 2 male students - men whose low-ability , 2 women were highly capable students, 2 female students are capable of being, and 2 low-ability students. Based on data analysis, conclusions obtained in this study were 1) Difficulties experienced by male students of class XI IPA SMA Taman Madya Probolinggo in problem solving opportunities are forgotten formula, operational error, do not get to read about, and do not know the use of the formula. 2) Difficulties experienced by female students of class XI IPA SMA Taman Madya Probolinggo in problem solving opportunities are forgotten formula, operational error, do not get to read about, and do not know the use of the formula. 3) Factors that cause difficulties in boys and girls high school class XI IPA SMA Taman Madya Probolinggo Associate opportunities in solving the problem is lack of memory, lack understand the operator of math, not in reading about their respective ideologies, and their respective ideologies do not use formula.
