Abstract

Mass media is the one of the information tools that is quickly responded and globalized. Theoretically, mass media is the information source for public. Media is not only information source for public, but also has a role to build public’s opinions about some particular problem of press theme, to make people think of one serious problem, and to influence the decision-maker. Mass media always guides people to give comments about the issues and surrounding situations. Ambon Ekspress has been trusted refrences of Maluku people since 1999. On this newspaper, there is a rubric called Pessona Manise that promotes itsÂ’ cultures. Based on this problem, this research has some questions about the frequencies of the content tendencies of Pesona Manise in developing cultural potency of Maluku. This study is focusing on Pesona Manise rubric of Ambon Ekspress newspaper at December 10, 2013 to January 10, 2014 edition. To analyze the content tendencies, the researcher uses content analysis method, and the design of this study is descriptive quantitative. The scope of this study is whole content of Pesona Manise rubric at December 10, 2014 to January 10, 2014 edition. In this research, the analysis unit is analyzing every single sentence of every copy whether the sentence in the body text or the title with the theme structure, language, arts, custom, tourism, culinary, and the negative, positive, and netral category of cultural description structure. Based on the analysis on the content tendencies on the Pesona Manise rubric of Ambon Ekspress newspaper at December 10, 2013 to January 10, 2014 edition, the researcher found the results based on each categories as, messages theme, the highest frequency is in the tourism object which is 299 sentences of 1567 sentences with percentage 19.00% and the lowest frequency is in the language category which only is 0.06%. In the cultural description, the highest frequency is found on netral category which is 256 sentences of 1567 sentences with percentage 16.37%. The result is reliability tested with the 0.98 and 0.97 of Coefficient Reliability with percentage 96% and 95% of Scott Reliability formula. According to the message theme as, language theme, art, custom, tourism object, culinary tourism, and tourism attraction, the tendencies is in the tourism object. Therefore, it can be concluded that the power mass media in creating tendency in the development of cultural potency is scoped in developing tourism object. And from the object description, which are positive description, negative, and netral, the tendency is in the netral description. In conclusion, Ambon Ekspress newspaper is the factual and having a netral side in providing news.
