Abstract

PT. Cahaya Mas Makmur is one of company that is engaged in the plastics industry, this company produce many kinds of plastic product packaging for foods, beverages, straws, and packaging of goods. The problem happen in this company recently is the high number of PE Las plastic products defect, known the type of PE Las product defects are like melting plastic product (scratched), the plastic product cannot be sticky, the size of plastic is not appropriate, and the slice of plastics is wavy. To finish those kind of problems, the company must be able to identify what problems should be prioritized first. So, it needs the right method to analyze and giving the solution for those problems. The method used in this research is using Six Sigma approaching method. Six Sigma is the method of continuous improvement to decrease the defect, one way to control the existing quality by using DMAIC (Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, Control) cycle. Data processing used DMAIC cycle, but in this research bounded on the Improve step, on the Define step is obtained a result that PE Las plastic defect is 2.805 Kg. Where the melting plastic defect is the highest kind of defect that is 34.22 % with the number of defect is 960 Kg, the pieces of wavy plastic defect is 26.31 % with the number of defect is 738 Kg, and plastic cannot be sticky defect is about 22.56 % with the number of defect is 633 Kg. On the Measure step is obtained Sigma level about 3,40 and DPMO about 28.045, then Analyze step used cause and effect diagram to know the root cause of the problem and used FMEA (Failure Mode Effect and Analyze) to know the root of the cause which is prioritized for being repaired, Improve step aimed to give recommendation of the solution company. Judging from the value of the highest RPN on the FMEA table. From the result of the research, it is obtained 2 defect that must be repaired that are melting plastic defect (scratch) and wavy plastic pieces defect.
