Abstract

This study aims to: (1) describe the activity of students during the ongoing process of learning mathematics through the application of problem-based learning model, (2) describe students' motivation towards learning mathematics through the application of problem based learning model. (3) describe the results of the application of mathematics learning with problem-based learning model. This research is a study using a qualitative approach to this type of research is qualitative descriptive. Objects in this study were eighth grade students of SMP 01 Muhammadiyah Malang with circle material. Data collection is using the observation sheet that aims to identify the implementation of learning activities with teacher and students when applying problem based learning model, the questionnaire is used to describe the student’s motivation towards learning mathematics through the application of problem based learning model, as well as the tests used to determine student's mastery learning with the application of the model problem based learning. This study uses data analysis techniques of qualitative observation sheets, sheet questionnaires, and mastery learning students. The results showed that: (1) the observation of teacher activity undertaken by an observer at the first meeting with an average 60.59% and categorized well enough. At the second meeting showed an increase to 73.53% by both criteria. (2) While the observation of students' activities during the implementation of problem-based learning model at the first meeting until the second to increase the average percentage of 66.27% beginning in the first meeting to be 71.57% in the second meeting. (3) motivation of students to the application of problem based learning instructional model is equal to 67.92% with the criteria quite well. (4) the results of research on learning outcomes of students in the classical with the application of problem-based learning model can be said to be incomplete to the Acquisition of a percentage of 71.43%.
