Abstract

The learning process is a process of communication, which deliver learning material to students. Mathematics is a science dealing with the abstract structures. Algebra is part of mathematics. In the fact, there are still a lot of students who do not understand the material of algebra. Results of research conducted by Hidayati (2010) showed 74% of students cannot do arithmetic operations with algebraic forms correctly. In essence, lack of understanding of the material students are understanding the concept of algebra. In explaining the concept of algebra is needed interactive learning media that can help students understand the material in algebra. Then, the need for the development of instructional media more interactive algebra using Adobe Flash which is supported by the XML Database. The purpose of this study is the development of media to produce instructional media are valid both in material and in terms of the media and to know the students' response to the learning media that can later be used in the learning process. This type of research is the development of instructional media research with limited testing. The steps of the development of instructional media in this study include: (1) needs analysis, (2) designing the media, (3) media design, (4) trial, (5) assessment of students' response to the learning media. The instrument used in this study is the validation sheet and student questionnaire responses were analyzed qualitatively. Based on the validation results obtained by the average assessment material 1 is 4 validator, validator material 2 is 3.75, 1 is 3.93 validator media and media validator 2 is 3.66. The results stated that the instructional media declared invalid in terms of both material and decent media and tested on students. Based on a study of student responses obtained by the average percentage of students on the criteria very well from the aspect of learning media appearance is 72%, the presentation of the material aspects is 72% and aspects of exercises is 76%. The results showed that students' response to learning media is positive.
