## Abstract

Based on the observation, the researcher found that there are some math teachers who still use the conventional method and the few help of the practice means in the teaching and learning process in SMPN 1 Nglegok. During the process of the teaching and learning the teacher gave the material that is taken from the book. After giving the material, the teacher asked students to do some exercise task. From the activity it can be seen that students are not motivated both when the teacher explained the material and when the teacher asked the students to do the task. The result of students scores of the middle semester examination shows that the average scores of students still reaching 56.1 whereas the minimal score should be 75. It means that the students scores did not reach the standard minimum score that has been determined by the school. This study is aimed in producing improvement of the learning result of students in math in rectangular material. To reach the purpose of the study the researcher uses the qualitative study of classroom action research by using the cooperative learning model, namely TGT (Teams Game Tournament). Steps for the teaching and learning process in this study are identification of the problem, planning of the action, data collection, and the data analysis. Those steps are taken in two cycles. The first cycle is done in twice meeting by doing a tournament in each meeting. The first cycle is focused on the characteristics of side, point, and diagonal of the rectangular form. It consists of square, rectangle, parallelogram, rhomb, kite and trapezium form. The second cycle is taken in twice meeting too by doing a tournament only in the second meeting explaining the circumference and area of rectangular. The result of the evaluation in each cycle is observed by the researcher to find out the improvement of the students. The result of the students learning using the TGT model that is applied to students in SMPN 1 Nglegok from the first and the second cycle shows improvement. In the first cycle the final score of students classically reach 35.2% whereas in the second cycle it reaches 75.5%. It shows that the TGT model is able to improve the math learning result of VII students of SMPN 1 Nglegok.
