Abstract

Learning is successful and qualified when students are actively engaged both physically and mentally, and socially in learning process, in addition to show the excitement of high learning, the great spirit of learning, and self-confidence. Therefore, the selection of method should receive the earnest attention in order to obtain the quality of learning outcomes as expected. In this case, one of learning models that can improve the quality of teaching is learning with Student Facilitator and Explaining method. Student Facilitator and Explaining is one of cooperative learning that uses small groups consists of 4-5 students heterogeneously. In this method, students present their ideas or opinions toward other fellow learners. The purposes of this study is to investigate the application of the method Student Facilitator and Explaining, student activity by using Student Facilitator and Explaining method and to determine student mastery learning. Qualitative research is a method of research that aims to understand the phenomenon of what is experienced by the subject of research for example, behavior, perception, motivation, action, and other in full and by using natural method. Data retrieval technique using observation sheets and student activity sheets test to determinbe student;ps mastery learning. The object of this study was a class IX students of SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Batu, amounting to 24 students. Based on the results of the qualitative analysis can be obtained by applying the Student Facilitator and Explaining the method in this study has not been going well, this is due to the constraints of the application, there are still brainstorming that has not been going well, and time management are not appropriate. Students in learning activities using the Student Facilitator and Explaining is quite good, which is the highest average percentage of the writing activities and who got the lowest percentage of the oral activities. Furthermore, students who achieve mastery of individual learning and the traditional learning and congruence similarity using the Student Facilitator and Explaining in class IX-A SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Batu, there are 24 students. Students who pass the study there were 18 students, whereas incomplete there are 6 student learning outcomes.
