Abstract

This research is head for increasing motivation and result of mathematics learning through Mind Map method in a form of algebra material 7-A class in SMP Raden Fatah Batu. This research is a Classroom Action Research with qualitative approach. The researcher directly involve in that action planning, do the action, observation and reflection. The subject of this research is 36 students of 7-A class in SMP Raden Fatah Batu. This research is divided into two cycles, in the first cycle there are two meetings, and in the second cycle there are three meetings with duration 2x40 minutes in each meeting. The technique of collecting data in this research is using observation, interview, questionnaire, range script, test, documentation, and triangulation that are used in the end of the cycle. Observation and script range is made in every meeting. Based on the result of this research, can be concluded that the implementation of mathematic learning through Mind Map method for increasing students’ motivation and result of mathematics learning are done by doing some learning steps that are : 1) Study the concept of one lesson’s material, 2) Establish the main ideas in a group, 3) Make or arrange the Mind Map by using students’ worksheet media, and 4) Group presentation in front of the class. Based on the analysis of the observation sheet, the average score of cycle test, questionnaire of students’ motivation, and interview there is an increase of the motivation and result of mathematics learning by using Mind Map method in learning mathematics. It is showed by, 1) The Data of students’ learning observation shows that there is an increasing in cycle I and cycle II, from 51,96% up to 74,99%, and it is categorized in “good” score. 2) There is an increasing in the average of the students’ test score, from 66,66% in cycle I up to 83,33% in cycle II. 3) The result of the data in students’ questionnaire shows that studentsÂ’ motivation increase from 62,2% in cycle I up to 80,58% in cycle II, and it is categorized in “good” score. 4) The information from interview shows that students are motivated. Based on those explanations, the researcher can conclude that student’s motivation and result of mathematics learning increase after the students learn by using Mind Map method.
