Abstract

Learning mathematics is not only focused on improving the ability to calculate quantitative but also for structuring the way of thinking and analytical skills particularly in the formation, synthesis, evaluation, and problem solving. In observations by teachers of mathematics at the Junior High School As Salam Batu, it is known that the teacher is more often applied conventional learning where the teacher as the center. Such things affect less conducive to teaching and learning process and students are less able to participate in the learning process. As a result, students are very difficult to understand the material given by the teacher. Researchers choose a class VII as a class to be studied by providing appropriate learning methods, in the hope students will understand the material provided and can meet SKBM. In practice the application of methods of solving this problem must be in accordance with the steps that have been determined to be effective and appropriate goals. There is some perspective on solving problems which are of Dewey. Based on Dewey's thinking, problem-solving methods are not only teaching method but also a method of thinking, for problem solving can be used in other methods starting from the search data to draw conclusions. Based on the results of data analysis and discussion of the learning outcomes of students with problem-solving methods in resolving the problem Dewey type in a triangle of material classified as good, with the percentage of classical completeness of 76.91%. Furthermore for each meeting of the student activity increased from meeting first to the last meeting and the stages in the type of problem-solving method of learning the Dewey began as a group to do the final stage of formulating the problem to present the results of group discussions, although their results still not optimal.
