Abstract

One of the main purpose of math learning is developing problem solving needed in daily life. That’s why it needs Problem possing, where students demanded to create problem and early step to solve the problem, which is, understand the problem has fulfilled. But in problem solving needs strategy. One problem solving strategy is heuristic strategy where students expected to understand the problems, creating problem solving as plan and checking problem solving. The research aimed to describe the improvement of problem solving skill, student’s activity, and students attitude in RSBI class (high skill), regular class (moderate skill), and exercise class (low skill) in math learning using problem possing and heuristic. The research uses qualitative and quantitative by research type is experiment needs three meeting. Research population are 247 students of grade VIII SMP Negeri 1 Junior High School of Batu year 2012-2013, while research samples are students of grade VIII-A consisted of 24 students, VIII-H consisted of 37 students, and VIII-I consisted of 25 students of SMP Negeri 1 Junior High School of Batu. Research is done since 10-14 July 2012. Data collection method in this research is done by doing test, questionnaire and observation.. Research result shows that: 1) there’s a different development of math problem solving skill for Junior High School students, whether in RSBI to exercise class, it basically because all of them has been grouped according to their skill; 2) activity of students from RSBI class and regular class along exercise class is quite good, and 3) student’s attitude in RSBI class and regular class to learning with problem possing and heuristic problem is tend to positive, while in exercise class tend to negative. In other words, these problem possing and heuristic learning model is suitable to be applied in class which ability is moderate and high.
