Abstract

Production facilities such as machines and equipments are important components in production process and therefore it is very important for the company to ensure the availability of existing production facilities. The occurrence of downtime on the machine is very disturbing to the company due to the loss of productive time in production process. This is what happens in Sugar Factory at Kebon Agung. Kebon Agung Sugar Factory produces sugar from sugar cane. Based on the data obtained, it was found that the factory often suffer from unscheduled downtime during the production process. To overcome this problem first step to do is to find the causes of downtime using Fault Tree Analysis, and then give several alternative solutions to minimize the time and frequency of downtime with Total Productive Maintenance. From several alternatives, the next step is to determine the ranks of each alternative based on several criteria such as cost, manpower willingness, complexity, time and frequency. To determine the ranking using questionnaire method that filled out by the operator chief in Milling Station then calculated using the Analytic Hierarchy Process. From the calculation, the highest ranking obtained is alternative 1. Alternative 1 corresponds to the pillars of TPM, 5S (seiri, seiton, seiso, seiketsu, sitsuke) this alternative solution includes sorting, placement of items in place, operating and maintenance standards and discipline in performing tasks. From this alternative 1, estimating of downtime reduction is 80%.
