Abstract

Student Team Achievement Division (STAD) is one type of cooperative learning developed by Robert Slavin and his colleagues at Johns Hopkins University. It is the simplest of cooperative learning which is suitable to be used by teachers who are just beginning to use learning cooperative. This research was Classroom Action Research (CAR) in applying STAD in Math subject about Two Variables of Linear Equations System for grade VIII D at SMP Raden Fatah Kota Batu. This research aimed at: (1) knowing the students' learning activities and (2) investigating the students achievement. This research used qualitative research design. The subjects were students in class VIII D at SMP Raden Fatah Batu which consisted of 36 students. The data were obtained through observation and test. The instruments were used to determine the activity of students learning and the result of the implementation of cooperative learning type STAD. The results showed that the activity of students during the Mathematics class by using Cooperative Learning type STAD from the first to the fourth meeting until the meeting reached 80.86% with active criteria. Meanwhile, the students achievement reached 86.11% with complete criteria by implementing Cooperative Learning type STAD.
