Abstract

In learning topic solids volume, students requires a process of investment the true concept since early time. In this case, need a learning method which can give a good understanding concept to the students. In addition, the method of guided discovery through group is one of learning method which can be used to help a process of the true concept investment to the students. The purpose of this research are (1) to describe the learning process by using guided investment method through the group for students of VIII grade (2) to know the investment solids volume through guided discovery the group for students of VIII grade. This research done at SMP Negeri 1 Ngambon which the location in Ngambon, Bojenegoro – East Java, the object of study are students of VIII grade which consits of 32 student. They are 18 female students and 14 male students. The instruments of this research are RPP (Lesson Plan), LKS (Sheet of Students Activity), paper test (Pretest and Post test), paper observation and questionnaire. In discovery process of formula for solids volume , group of cube, can be done by answering the questions in the LKS (Sheet of Students Activity ) well so that they find the formula for volume cube = side × side × side. Cuboid groups can answer all the questions in the LKS (Sheet of Students Activity ) very well and find the formula for cuboid volume = Height × Width × Length. Prism groups can answer the questions in the LKS (Sheet of Students Activity ) very well and find the formula for Prism volume = Base × Height. While pyramid groups can find the formula for pyramid volume = 1/3 × Base × Height. The result of observation towards the students while learning process by using guided discovery through the group with topic solids volume for the second meeting showed 91.66 %, the third meeting showed 95.83 % and the fourth meeting 95.83 %. It means the score average is 94.44 % with very well criteria. The result of pretest showed 20% students had passed the test and 80% students had not passed the tests which the SKM (Minimum Standard Competence) ≥70 while the result of post test based on the classical score showed that 90.625% students passed test while 9.375% students have not passed the test. The result of this research showed that student of VIII grade of SMP Negeri 1 Ngambon passed the SKM (Minimum Standard Competence) of Math subject on geometry material with solids volume topic by using guided discovery through the groups.
