Abstract

The purpose of this research was to know the teacher and student activities on mathematics learning by using peer tutoring in small groups which had related with the student result of studying mathematics. In this research, the strategy that used by the writer was peer tutoring and it would be combination with a discussion in small groups. The result of data analysis and the observations on teacher and student activities of student result of cognitive studying had taken the data, which are : 1) Teacher activity was very good on mathematics learning by using peer tutoring in small groups, if the percentage was around 87,5%. In this part the teacher as a facilitator. 2) There was an increasing on student activity on mathematics learning by using peer tutoring in small groups. It would look on percentage of the quality of student learning of first meeting. It reached 78,4% and then at the fourth meeting, there was a gradually increase in this area, on 78,6%. 3) The student result of cognitive studying by using peer tutoring in small group should reach the community service that used at school. One class could called “reach the community service” if around 75% students got the score around ≥ 75. On the second test, the percentage of the reaching community service was 83,73% from 37 students. This percentage shown that the student who reached the community service was more large than the number of student who could not reach the community service. Finally, the conclusion pf this research was for doing the learning strategy by using peer tutoring in small groups on mathematics learning could increase an understanding and the student result of cognitive studying.
