## Abstract

Today's, many students had difficulty in understanding the content of textbooks that are required in learning, so the outcomes as a result was not as expected. To overcome this, it takes training to learn methods to overcome these problems. There are many methods that can be applied, one of them is the SQ4R method. SQ4R Method (Survey, Question, Read, Reflect, Recite, Review) as an alternative, because SQ4R method in principle is the procedural step to understand the content of the text in books, articles, and so forth. The purpose of this research are : (1) to describe how to construct the learning of mathematics with SQ4R method, (2) to describe how the implementation of the model of learning mathematics with SQ4R method, (3) to know the learning outcomes of students after application of the method SQ4R, (4) to determine the student's motivation after the SQ4R method, (5) to knowing the students response in learn SQ4R methods. This research is classroom action (PTK). The approach used was a qualitative approach, where the exposition is descriptive in the form of words. Data obtained from field notes, questionnaire and, giving the test. The object of this research is class VIII-B SMP Muhammadiyah 2 Batu. The results showed that: (1) to implement the method of learning mathematics with SQ4R, method by preparing plan of learning (RPP), which adjusted the learning steps with the steps in the SQ4R method, (2) implementation of the model of mathematics learning through SQ4R method carried out in accordance with the stages of learning and RPP have been devised in research methods, (3) student achievement was increased after the implementation of SQ4R method, this can be seen from the results of student learning classical increased from 53.33% with an average value 64.00 to 83.33% with an average rating of 70.8. (4) increased students motivation. At the time before the application of the SQ4R method students motivation who are at high category by 17%, whereas after application of the SQ4R method students motivation increased to 23%. For the medium category, the student's motivation before implementation SQ4R method is 70% and after application of SQ4R to 67%. As for the low category, students' motivation before learning SQ4R 13% and the time after application of SQ4R to 10%. (5) students response to learn math with method SQ4R was positive. From the results of questionnaire analysis of student responses, the average response of students who answered yes were as much as 76.67%, while only 23.33% said no
