Achievement of students can be influenced by such factor as parents’ educational background. Parents are the first persons who educate their children. This study tried to know whether there is or not a correlation between Parents’ educational background especially mothers and the students’ English achievement. The hypothesis of this study is that there is a positive correlation between Parental educational level and the students’ English achievement. The population of this study consisted of all the second year students of SLTP Negeri 02 Paiton – Probolinggo in the fourth semester 2004/2005. There were three classes of the second year students that consisted of 131 students. One class was used to be the try-out of the test. The other two classes were used as the sample of this research. This study used questionnaire to get the data of the parental educational level and written test to get the data of the students’ English achievement. The analysis of data was based on the Spearman Rank Correlation. The result of this study showed that there was positive correlation between parental educational level and the English achievement of the second year students’ of SLTP Negeri 02 Paiton – Probolinggo.
