Abstract

Literature is a kind of art and has an artistic language. It is an expression of human beings life in the form of experience, thoughts, idea, and feeling in concrete description. By reading a literary work, it can help the readers be cultured and responsive toward any kind of goodness in this life. Novel is one of literary works which has purposes for enjoyment, entertainment, and information about the human experience. By reading novel, people can gain important knowledge, such as: politic, social, religion, etc. For example, in Agatha Christie’s novel “The Secret Adversary”, the readers are able to know about love, friendship, togetherness, solidarity, jealousy, and treason. The writer chose The Secret Adversary because this novel arouses the writer’s curiosity, especially when the writer found efforts of the main character to struggle her secret mission. This study focuses on psychological conflicts faced by Tuppence as the main character. In this study, the writer used descriptive design because there was no treatment as in experimental research.
