Abstract

Cervical cancer is one type of gynecologic cancer is the most frightening for women and cervical cancer is currently the main cause of death of country-developing country, while in developed countries is ranked 10. Based on data from 13 Centre for Pathology at Indonesia from 13,644 cases in men and women he has the highest frequency at 27% or 36% from 10,233 cases in women only. And the combined data from several hospitals in Indonesia showed the highest frequency that is also 16.0% The objectives of this research is to know the anxiety experienced by patients with cervical cancer and the factors that influence anxiety. This research is qualitative, because this method requires a review of the situation in nature without the intervention of the researcher. Data collection techniques used in this research is interview and observation. This research was conducted in Dr. Soetomo General Hospital on November 16 to December 16, 2005. The results of this study found that chemotherapy makes cervical cancer patients feel anxious, anxiety was shown through physiological responses, behavioral, cognitive, and affective. Physiological reactions such as sweating and cold hands, heart beats faster, his face pale and tense, loss of appetite, unusual movements, discomfort in the stomach, feeling depressed at the chest and frequent urination. Response in the form of nervous behavior, withdrawal from interpersonal relationships and escape from problems. Cognitive responses such as fear of death and injury. While the affective response in the form of impatience, feeling tense, nervous, and felt scared. The impact of anxiety experienced by patients with cervical cancer who undergo chemotherapy that chemotherapy affects such as no longer willing to undergo chemotherapy because of trauma to the side effects of chemotherapy, decrease in body condition to make Hb decline so it can not undergo chemotherapy and acceptance of drugs on the body that cause side effects experienced greater than they should.
