Indonesia has many literature books written in English, such as novel, drama, and poetry. Novel as one of literary works has purpose of giving of entertainment, enjoyment, and information. Reading novel means reading the life of society because novel is the whole of human’s feeling and thoughts. In this thesis the writer is interested in discussing about the real life of someone. The writer takes novel as the study of the thesis, the writer analyzes two problems, and they are: 1) who are the main characters in novel “A Beautiful Mind” by Sylvia Nasar? 2) What are the characteristic of the main characters in “A Beautiful Mind” by Sylvia Nasar? The suitable method in this study is descriptive qualitative. It is designed to obtain information concerning the status phenomena that exists at that time of the study without necessarily used numerical and statistical data. While, the approach used is objective approach that tries to describe the literary product without necessarily studying the author’s background or author’s life. The events are in the forms of paragraph, sentences, and the dialogues concerning the characteristics of the main characters in Sylvia Nasar novel “A Beautiful Mind”. The result of the study, by comparing and analyzing the story deeply, that John Forbes Nash Jr is a genius of mathematics, inventor of the original ideas like game theory, Nash equilibrium, Nash bargaining solution was published. At thirty years of age, Nash suffered episode of paranoid schizophrenia and he thanked to a beautiful loyal of women Alicia Larde PhD, who his wife can still glimpse the charismatic man. She fell in love with and always beside him, give her faith until he reawakening to struggle a disease from schizophrenia, he continues his work and in 1994, receives the Nobel Prize and world acclaim. This is the story of John Forbes Nash, Jr. it is a story about the mystery of human mind, in three acts: genius, madness, reawakening. Beside that the writer finds messages that the power of love is triumph over incredible adversity and we must live in real life without imagination, hallucinations and delusions. Finally, after knowing the message, the author of the thesis expects that all readers are able to make the message above as valuable lesson in their life.
