Abstract

Liver is the first perfusion organ which one of its function is to neutralize all toxins that enter the body, this is why liver is very fragile to chemical trauma by chemicals substances that enter the body. One of the cause of chemical liver damage is CCl4. CCl4 is a chemical substance that is able to cause acute hepatocelluler injury through lipid peroxidation mechanism which is caused by the reactive metabolite. Bilirubin parameter is used as an indication to chemical liver damage to find out the excretion function of the liver. Pegagan­leaves (Centella asiatica) contains ß karoten as an antioksidan that have the ability to inhibit free radicals caused by CCl4. Hepar injury that occur covers hepatosit swelling and necrosis of liver’s cell which will cause arise in both of bilirubin type direct bilirubin and indirect bilirubin. The type of experimen is a true experimental using Complete Random Design with 5 groupseach group contains of 5 mices. The population used in this experimen is male mices (Rattus norvegicus) that fullfil the inclution criteria, the sample used in this experimen is 25 male mices. Independent variable used is Pegagan­Leaves sari doses and the dependent variable used in this experimen is the quantity of direct, indirect, and total bilirubin. Pagagan­Leaves sari is given everyday in the whole 4 weeks orally using small straw, while CCl4 is given through subcutaneus injection once in two days for 4 weeks. According to the one way ANAVA test it is known that there is an effect of Pegagan­Leaves sari to the decreased of direk, indirek, and total serum bilirubin level which have been induced by CCl4. From the BNT 1% test it is known that the effective dose is dose 2 that is 10 ml/200mg weight.
