The development of modern civilization becomes the starting point of behavior development in adolescents in which the attitude of individualism, egoism, hedonism and ignorance of the needs and suffering of fellow human beings tend to be more prevalent among our society in general. On the other hand the social interaction required an empathy to feel what happened to someone else, this can encourage the formation of a good social relationships and may be preferred in the association. In this research, there are two variables, empathy and social interaction skills. Empathy is the ability to understand the feelings, desires and difficulties of others by putting oneself in the position of others and able to accept others' viewpoints, while the ability of social interaction is the ability to conduct social relationships between two or more individuals, where the relationship is mutual influence, change, or improve the behavior of other individuals or vice versa This study aims to determine the relationship between empathy and social interaction in adolescents, with data analysis method used is quantitative methods. While the method of data collection using stratified random sampling method with the scale of empathy scale and the scale of social interaction. The study was conducted from December 24, 2005. Population is taken from Islamic high school students Pujon consisting of class IA, class 2 and class 3 IPA IPA from 6 classes. The number of study subjects were as many as 91 students or 43.33% of the total population of 210 students. The results of this study indicate that there is a positive correlation means the higher the empathy the higher the social interaction skills in adolescents, with r = 0.589 belonging to the category rather low correlation. From this result is very significant, whereas the effective contribution of empathy for the emergence of social interaction skills in this study amounted to 34.7%.
