Initial surveys conducted by researchers at SMA Negeri 1 Gending, indicating that the low student writing. This is caused by lack of exercise and not used to be the practice of composing or writing. Based on these problems the research is done to assist students in improving results of student writing using the method of training (drill method). This study aimed to describe the increased ability to write the second half of XI class students SMA Negeri 1 Gending with training methods (drill method) viewed from the aspect of language, content, and technical articles. This is viewed in terms of planning, implementation, assessment, and improving student writing skills in terms of language, content, and mechanics of writing. Based on the above description, the approach used is a qualitative approach. This type of research study design is a class action or so-called Action Research (AR). The location of this research is to SMA Negeri 1 Gending and is subject penelitiannnya student 'SMA Negeri 1 Gending. The data of this research is the process and results of student papers with the application of training methods (drill method). Data collection techniques used were observation techniques, documentation, interviews and tests. Research data analysis technique was conducted at the planning, implementation, and assessment. The results could be described as follows. First, the learning plan during the pre writing, writing, and post-writing done in 2 cycles. Second, the implementation of the study carried out in accordance with the planning of learning. Any meeting or teacher learning using 5 stages of learning. Third, an assessment done of the assessment process and assessment results. The assessment process is the observation during writing activities take place. Assessment of outcome is the result of writing students between the value of the pre test and post test. Fourth, the ability to write before held the act or practice is applied methods (drill method) is less / low. This is caused by a lack of training students in writing. After the action by applying the resulting drill method that students can prepare or write essays well. Can be seen in the development of each drill conducted. Also, it can be seen also in the post-test (rating after the action), which showed an increase from the previous.
