Literature is human’s expression. Almost all human’s lives have been written in literature. People usually have many ways expressing their feeling, imagination, creation, and compunction. Literary work expresses a series of happening of human life such as love, humanity, etc. Love, like forbidden love, contract love and humanity such as poverty, oppression, are the problems that are never end in real society. Moreover, the students can develop their imagination through the literary work. Those literatures are poetry, novel, drama, short story, and film. It is considered to be an important art form, a source of popular entertainment and a powerful method for educating, or indoctrinating citizens. This study is intended to study on the difference of culture between west and east found in “SHANGHAI NOON” film. More specifically, this study is focused on the cultural differences between west and east found in “Shanghai Noon” film, the cultural problems found in “Shanghai Noon” film, and the main characters solve the problems in “Shanghai Noon” film. This study used descriptive qualitative research design because it was intended to identify the cultural differences between west and east found in “Shanghai Noon” film. To collect the data, the writer used direct observation. The data were analyzed by identifying the typical culture based on the quotation from main characters, events, objects, and the dialogue. The result of the study showed that there are several cultural differences between west and east found in “SHANGHAI NOON” film. The first is cultural differences between west and east such as Humans are nature with nature; they should feel comfortable with anyone, Traditional and Orthodox, No Individual, Fear of expressing love, Fear of talking with authority figures, Fear speaking and performance in general, Humans have to manipulate and control nature to survive, Humans should reward actions competitive in spirit, Science and technology provide the good life, Free and Individual, The religion not important because there is a movement of secularism. The second is cultural problems found in “SHANGHAI NOON” film such as The first is each main character from different culture fear of revealing one’s own shortcomings, different things, and style of life. The third is how the main characters solve the problem for example democrat and no individual. In conclusion, the writer summarizes three main lesson can be taken from this film based on his own point of view. First, we can identify the typical of culture especially west and east. Second, we can find out the cultural problem which happened toward new comers. Third, we know how to solve the problem when faced new culture.
