Abstract

During his youth, students are often confronted with various kinds of interpersonal conflicts that occur due to a mismatch between adolescent self with others (parents, siblings, peers, teachers). To resolve the conflict, young people need help from others to cope. Families have an enormous influence to provide guidance, direction, and positive effects for adolescents. In addition, the function of guidance and counseling is also very important to assist students in resolving problems with wisdom. This is because if the conflict experienced by adolescents, especially interpersonal conflict is not handled properly, it will affect the subsequent process of adolescent development. The purpose of this study was to describe the types of interpersonal conflict experienced by students as well as the function of guidance and counseling in dealing with interpersonal conflict in SMU Negeri 2 Probolinggo. The study was descriptive qualitative research. The process of extracting the data using interviews and observation. Interviews were conducted with research subjects as many as 5 people or students of SMU Negeri 2 Probolinggo located in different classes. Interviews are also conducted on the teachers' guidance and counseling. While the observations made by observing research subjects when the interview took place. Results showed that (1) The types of interpersonal conflict experienced by the students there are 4 kinds of conflicts with teachers, conflict with parents, conflicts with friends and conflicts within the organization. (2) Most of the subjects stated that the function of guidance and counseling benefits, assistance, information, increase knowledge and change in self-confidence of students. But two of the five subjects of research states that the function of guidance and counseling do not provide benefits for themselves, so that the subject was able to resolve the problem without the help of someone other than the guidance and counseling is considered only sides with the teacher when there is conflict.
