The research based on the low ability to writer descriptive composition for grade VII students of SMPN 6 Malang Junior High School. It found from the observation where many students lack of knowledge about how to write good composition. Those were by paying attention to the sentences, paragraph unity, and spelling. Students were also lack of pay attention to the teacher since they used lecture method in teaching. Students were told to listen, write, and task work. The strategy focused on intellectual ability, attitude, and skill to be balanced. The students were not only capable in intellectual but also owe balanced skill and attitude. The research was done in collaborative way, that were with Indonesian Language and Literature Teacher as teacher and researcher as learning process observer. Here, Indonesian Language and Literature Teacher applied learning strategy oriented on student’s activity to increase description writing in SMPN 6 Malang. The research was done by using qualitative and quantitative approach. Qualitative data used to get descriptive data, while quantitative data used to reckon the increasing of student’s ability in writing descriptive composition by using learning strategy with student’s activity. The research was done in SMPN 6 Malang Junior High School and the subject were Grade VII students of SMPN 6 Malang Junior High School and Indonesian Language and Literature Teacher. Data research found from teacher’s behavior in teaching by using teaching strategy oriented on student’s activity and student’s behavior in writing descriptive composition. The data found from observation, interview, test, and documentation. The research showed that by teaching strategy oriented on student’s activity, student’s ability in writing descriptive composition got increased, whether from sentence aspect, paragraph unity, and spelling. Their work in writing descriptive composition was better, complete, the paragraph was sequences from first to the next sentence, the spelling was correct. Percentage of individual achievement before action was 66.67%, siklus 1 dengan presentase 74.80% and cycle 2 got percentage 81.94%, while group achievement in cycle 1 reached 74.80% percentage, and cycle 2 percentage was 89.58%.
