Abstract

Literature so far considered very difficult to be understood since it involves people’s mind in it. Literary works present something which is implicitly offered to the public readers. The material or the subjects matter of literature is something very general such as love, sacrifice, sorrow, struggle of life, problem and human’s activity or human’s experience. Moreover, Hudson (in Koesnosoebroto, 1988:4) gives a definition about literature below: “Literature is a vital record of what men have seen in life, what they have through and felt about those aspect of it, which have the most enduring interest for human beings” From the statement above, it is clear that literature as one of sources to express any kind of subject matter and human beings through literary works such as poems, novels, play and others. In addition, Connolly (in Koesnosoebroto, 1988:2) said that there are two kinds of literature. First is the literature of knowledge. It presents or interprets facts, ideas or happenings such as a description of a person or a place, the explanation scientific process, the account of war or the discussion of a political issue. Second is The literature of imagination. It interprets the experience by a fictitious presentation of people, ideas and events. 2 By reading both of literature above, the readers will get new knowledge from dialogues which are rich of different social life and its story. Furthermore, there are some similarities about the contribution that was stated that was stated in Hartiningsih (2002:6). First, literature will gives the readers the feeling of amusement and satisfaction. Second, the great work of literature give the readers truth of life.
