Literature means the expression of thought in language, where by “thought” he means the ideas, feelings, views, reasoning, and other operation of the human mind. It adds the readers’ knowledge and experience about life. That is the reason why the writer of this thesis analyzes literature especially novel focused on cunning as the topic of this study. The object of this study is the whole events in the novel “Call Back Yesterday”. It is focused on Clare’s cunning. The purpose of study is to analyze and describe Clare’s cunning, the reasons and the end in making use of her cunning. This study uses the descriptive research because there is no treatment as in experimental research. This research just describes and interprets what exist with respect to condition in a situation. The data are carefully examined for the intention of this study. In these study uses objective approach because the writer of this thesis doesn’t need studying the author’s life, background of the work or the society; however, just analyzing the work itself. The result of the study shows that Clare’s cunning toward Oriel is by told Oriel that Devil was seduced her in Hayfield when they met the night before, toward Devil by showed from Oriel’s father that Oriel was engaged with a millionaire man from Africa and will married. The reason of Clare’s cunning is make Oriel and Devil had parted in bitterness and misunderstanding. The last, the end of Clare’s cunning toward Oriel and Devil is when Clare is a Devil’s wife. Clare’s being lonely and unhappy. Therefore, Clare died with tragic.
