Survey early which in SMP 18 Malang, indicating that ability of student in comprehending reading less optimal. Ability read they not yet earned to fulfill expectation. This matter caused used method teacher less effective. Learn still use or base on dictionary media and card great at improving understanding read student specially at word meaning. This matter cause the understanding of student to difficult words in reading less optimal. From other side that required by time student to look for difficult words in dictionary enough eat time, so that usage of time during 2 lesson hour is not optimal. Therefore required a appropriate method or approach and more effective to increase the understanding of student to difficult words. As for method which is used in improving the the understanding method guide of context. Method guide of context a method which used in instruction of kosakata to anticipate, to estimate, conceiving meaning a foreign word or new word without opening dictionary. Meaning a word have meaning which different each other pursuant to sentence context. On that account, guide of context have very important role in determining word meaning. Besides can comprehend word meaning which there are in reading, guide of context also can uplift skill to read. Research type which used in this research is research of class action. Location research of have place in SMP 18 Malang, with research subject is class student of VIII F counted 35 student. this Research data in the form of behavior learn and student in course of study read the understanding of difficult words pass approach of guide of obtained study result and context is student before and after action. Source of data in this research is class student of VIII F SMP 18 Malang and Teacher Language and Art Indonesia. Technique data collecting of this research use test, observation, and interview. Whereas its research instrument is researcher, test, observation sheet, and interview sheet. Technique analyse data in this research use t- test. Result of research indicate that completely student before performed action 64,59, cycle 1 showing is complete student after performed action 70,33, and cycle 2 showing is complete student after performed action 84,55 is. Complete student after performed natural action make-up of which significan. Cycle 1 t = 6,680, and cycle 2 t = 28,981. Thereby, study by using approach of guide of context can improve ability read student in comprehending difficult words.
