Abstract

Research on the study of the use of the word greeting in Indonesian environment UMM student focused to describe the greeting word used by the student, particularly the greeting word used by the student majoring in Indonesian UMM. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. Data collection by observation with a look at, involved notes. Sources of research data used is the preference of all speech that is displayed by the students majoring in Indonesian, which form the preference, which are determined by purposive. Based on this research shows the word used in greeting a student majoring in Indonesian in addition to using a common language, also uses a special language / slang. Types of greeting used by the student majoring in Indonesian UMM greeting based on the aspects of word form include (1) the name, appears in fragmented form of name calling, (2) kinship, appears in the form kekerabatn designation, and designation kinship + name, (3) pronominal, appears in the form of certain characteristics, physical condition, and slang. While the preference based on the aspect category includes (1) sex, including women and men, (2) the status of age, these include older age, age, or younger than the speaker, (3) the level of formality, these include formal and not formal. As for the preference function used by the student majoring in Indonesian language for addressing both petutur female and male speakers are to (a) respect, pack (pack + name), bu (bu + name), Ms. (Ms. + name), mas ( mas + name), dhik, Sampeyan, siblings (brothers + name) you, (b) familiarity, name, non, which, rek, om (om + name), mother, Dhe, corkscrew, boss, Jes, Kacong, dent, you, awakmu, Koen, (c) the identity, pak, bu, (d) tempting, Ms., (e) ridicule, dhol, ndut, dent, bu + name, teacher.
