Aetiology of manic depressive psychosis is generally not known for certain but there are several trigger factors such as the environmental stressors that can cause affective disorders. Patients with manic-depressive psychosis disorder is very rare in Indonesia and this situation occurred in many European countries. Aetiology of manic-depression is one type of affective disorder in the form of extreme emotional disturbance, which occurred a period of mania alternating with depression or vice versa. This study aims to determine the etiology of manic-depressive psychosis in patients Lawang Mental Hospital. Based on research results that no patient families who have experienced mental illness, so it can be seen that the factors leading to the occurrence of manic-depressive psychosis in patients Lawang is due to psychosocial factors such as family upbringing and disappointment toward men. Supported by economic factors which the patient experienced the pressure of needs that must be met and because of factors pendidikkan where the subject intelligent, has ideas that are ridiculous, and the presence of delusions and hallucinations. It can be concluded that the etiology of manic depressive psychosis in mental hospital patients Lawang is not because of heredity, but because of psychosocial factors is supported by economic factors and patient education factors.
