Abstract

Background : Diabetic Retinopathy was an important chronic complication of diabetes mellitus. It was caused by high incidence and that worse prognosis i.e actuity visual loss. Suffering period of diabetic influenced the degree of diabetic retinopathy. A long time hyperglycemia enhanced changes of the cellular component of retinal basalis membran, loss of perycit, and endothelial disfunction. Purpose : To determine the correlation between diabetic suffering period with the degree of diabetic retinopathy on DM type II patients. Material and Method : Observasional analysis with cross sectional design. Sample were 30 diabetic type II patients with diabetic retinopathy as it's complication which found from medical record of Haji Hospital Surabaya during January to December 2008. The sampling technique applied was total sampling. The data was analyzed by Spearman analytic method. It was significant if p <0,05. Result and Discussion : Based on Spearman test, there was significant correlation (Sig 0,05) between DM suffering period with the degree of diabetic retinopathy, it was showed by Sig.(2 tailed) = 0,000 < p (0,05). That Spearman test also showed strong correlation, by coefficient correlation value of 0,683 Conclusion : There was significant correlation between DM type II suffering period with the degree of diabetic retinopathy
